I'd like to change the icon for a hard drive on my system. I know it's possible, because one of my disks already has a different icon. I must have done it somehow, but I can't find the tip on how to do that.

There are two ways to create a drive-specific icon. The first step for both is to determine the full pathname of the file containing the icon you want, as well as the index of the icon within that file. To view the icons contained in an EXE or DLL file, right-click any shortcut that links to a file (as opposed to a system shortcut like My Computer) and choose Properties. On the Shortcut tab of the resulting dialog, click the Change Icon button. Click Browse and select the file whose icons you want to peruse. When you find the one you want, count off the icons to determine the correct index. Start in the top left corner with zero and count down each column, then to the right. For example, icon 12 in C:\ Windows\System32\Shell32.dll is a picture of a memory chip. Make a note of the full pathname of the file and the icon index, then click Cancel, and Cancel again—you don't actually want to change that shortcut's icon. The Microsoft Windows files moricons.dll and progman.exe, both found in C:\Windows\System32, also contain numerous icons.

One technique for assigning a drive-specific icon uses a file named Autorun.inf in the root directory of that drive. Launch Notepad and enter [autorun] on the first line. Enter ICON= on the second line, followed by the full pathname of the icon-holding file, a comma, and the icon index. It might look like this:

Save the file as "C:\autorun.inf" (you need the quotes to prevent Notepad from appending the .txt extension). Now restart the computer. When you open Windows Explorer, the drive should display its new icon.

The other technique involves editing the Registry. Launch RegEdit from the Start menu's Run dialog and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrenTVersion\Explorer. If a subkey named driveicons is present, open it; if not, right-click in the right-hand pane, select New | Key and name the key driveicons. Under the driveicons key, find or create a subkey named C (or the letter of the drive whose icon you want to change). And under this C key find or create a subkey named DefaultIcon. Double-click the (Default) entry in the right-hand pane and set its value to the full pathname of the icon-holding file, a comma, and the icon index. Again you'll need to restart Windows.

If one of these techniques seems not to work for you, try the other. If you apply both to the same drive, the Autorun.inf file takes precedence.

RapidShare has a download limit of 30 MB per hour for free user. Beside, free users can only parallelly download 1 file at a time, and subject to countdown (waiting) time delay before download start. And if you're behind a proxy (or transparent proxy, which most ADSL users going through without notice) of an ISP, you most likely share the same IP address with other users. This may (and most likely) caused you unable to download anything from RapidShare because RapidShare limit 30 MB per hour for each free user, based on their IP address!

RapidShare Hack: Crack and Disable RapidShare download limit

RapidShare also limit free users, based on their IP address, to certain download limit, and after reaching the limit, RapidShare will block your IP address. To overcome RapidShare download limit, since it's based on IP address, the techniques to change or mask the IP address will come in useful to hack the RapidShare.

There are several ways to change your IP address (or at least showing different IP address to RapidShare). Whatever ways, you need to clear your web browser's cookies first.

1. Request new IP address from ISP (for dynamic IP address Internet users only)

Click Start -> Run
Type cmd in the Open box, then click OK.
At the command prompt, run the following commands one by one:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
exit
Try to download from RapidShare again.
Note: It's possible to put all the commands above into a batch file and simply run the batch file to complete the IP changing process. To create the batch file, use Edit in command prompt or Notepad, copy and paste the above commands into the editor, and save the file with extension of .bat or .cmd (for Notepad, change the File Type to All File too).

2. Use a proxy server, or a different proxy server

You can get a list of available public proxy server easily by searching "proxy server" in search engine such as Google or Yahoo!. Choose a proxy server and note down its IP address and port number.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings. Select (check) the option of Use a proxy server for your LAN. Then key in the proxy server IP address and port in respective box. Click OK to continue.

In Mozilla Firefox, go to Tools -> Options -> Connection Settings. Then select (click) Manual proxy configuration and key in proxy server information. Click OK to continue.

Obviously, once you hit the download limit, you will need to change the proxy server again. There are tools that help you to switch the proxy server automatically. In Internet Explorer, try Steganos Internet Anonym 2006 from Steganos or Hide IP from V7soft. In Firefox, use the SwitchProxy extension. Both software allow you to change the proxy server easily, with just few clicks.

My original Install Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron From USB article is easily the most popular on the site, probably entirely due to a lack of good, clear, instructions elsewhere on the internet, and also probably because of the rise of small laptops like the Asus Eee, which don't come with any kind of CD/DVD drive. Even if you do have an optical drive, why bother burning a CD every time? It's so wasteful.

I needed to install Ubuntu again after my failed adventures with another distro, so I took the opportunity to work out an even easier way to do this. Essentially, the configuration files shouldn't need to be edited at all as Syslinux now supports directories and the FAT32 file system - but they're just boring technical details. All you need ot know is that there are fewer steps, and the process is easier to follow.

Oh, one more thing… I forgot to mention last time that this method also works with Edubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu, as well as most other Ubuntu-based distros and even some other distributions too. It won't hurt to give it a try, and I'm happy to help anyone out who wants to give it a go. I tried these with the Slackware-based Zenwalk, for example, and it went without a hitch.

Like last time, these instructions assume that you're using a Windows machine to prepare the USB flash drive. So let's begin!

Preparing the files and USB flash drive

First up, we need to format the USB stick in Windows - go into My Computer, right-click on the USB drive, and then click Format. When prompted, select FAT32 as the file system. Don't use NTFS - it won't work!
Download 7-zip. It's free and extremely useful, for this and anything else you might need to do with compressed files. It's also open source, just like Linux, so that has to be a good thing. Get the latest stable version to be on the safe side - not the beta.
Download Syslinux, which is the bootloader we will be using to make the stick bootable. Just get the latest version in zip format, and extract it to the Desktop - right-click, select 7-zip, then extract to syslinux-6.3.3 (or whatever) and then rename that folder to "syslinux".
Open a command prompt (on the Start Menu under Accessories, or run "cmd") and cd to the syslinux folder:
cd Desktop/syslinux/win32
Run this command to install the syslinux bootlader to the thumbdrive:
syslinux -ma f: (where f: is the letter of your USB thumbstick)
Now we need to extract the Ubuntu ISO - Right click on the ISO file, and select 7-zip/extract to ubuntu-8.04…

The preparation is done! You should now have syslinux installed on your USB thumb drive, and a folder called Ubuntu-8.04-somethingorother on your Windows desktop. Now it's time ot create our bootable Ubuntu LiveUSB Stick!

Putting it all together

Drag all of the files you just extracted from the ISO into the empty USB drive.
Move everything from the isolinux folder into the root of the drive. So, if your USB thumbdrive's letter is F, as in our earlier example, move all the files from F:\isolinux\ into F:\
Rename the isolinux.cfg file to syslinux.cfg
Eject the drive, insert into the computer you wish to install Ubuntu onto, and boot! Shazam!

You may need to configure your BIOS to boot from USB, or at least go in there and change the boot order to try external drives first. It's quite a simple process, but varies depending on your motherboard manufacturer, and so I can't really go into it here.

Most modern computers will let you press F12 during the very first boot screen to select a temporary boot device - you should only need this once so that could be sufficient.

To create a Table of Figures, you must first label the figures in your document by inserting captions. You can manually label or have them labeled automatically as you create them. To insert a caption for an existing figure, select the item in the document and from the Insert menu, point to Reference, and click Caption. In the Label list, select the item you want Word to insert a caption for. If you want figures labeled automatically, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and click Caption. Click the AutoCaption button. Under the Add caption when inserting list, place a check beside those items you want Word to insert captions for.

So now you're ready to insert the Table of Captions. First place the insertion point where you want the insert the table then complete the remaining steps that are listed below:

1. Click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and click Index and Tables.
2. Select the Table of Figures tab.
3. In the Caption Label box, click the name you want to use as a caption for your table.
4. Select any additional options you want to use.
5. Click OK.

CAUSE

One of the following conditions may cause this problem to occur:

•	Graphic routines in an Office 2003 program compete with other programs for use of direct access to the display buffer.
•	The computer is heavily loaded, and the Display Control Interface (DCI) times out.
•	The DCI lock is changed without notifying the Microsoft Office 2003 program.
•	The Display modes have been changed in Microsoft Windows.
•	A DirectX full-screen activation (possibly when a program is running in a window) occurs.
•	A window repositioning occurs.

The probability of experiencing this problem goes up when you use other programs that use DCI or DirectX, or both, thereby competing with GDI+ for use of direct access to the display buffer.

Examples of such programs include some video teleconferencing programs, including Microsoft NetMeeting, OpenGL-based programs, and games.

To enable the carkit-function you have to short-circuit the "4" and "5". After a short time, "Car" is shown on the display and the menu 3-7 is enabled!! This Trick is for you how want to hear more then your supposed to ! If you short-circuit the left and the right contact with the middle contact ("3", "6" and "9") the Nokia Software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this, just active the "auto call receive" function in the headphone profile and set the ringing volume to "mute" Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Place the phone somewhere stratidic and call your phone! The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are talking about! .....gr8... 1.How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your cell phone ever gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.
2.The emergency number worldwide for a mobile phone is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly enough, you can even dial (112) if the keypad for your cell phone is locked. Try it out. I have, and I tell you -- it works!
3.Now imagine your cell phone cell battery is very low. To activate your phone and tap into the phone's hidden battery power, press the keys * 3 3 7 0 #. Your cell phone miraculously will restart with this reserve power and the cell phone will register a 50% increase in battery charge. This reserve power will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.
